Work description : Jeju April 3 Uprising (1947-1954) is one of the most tragic events of the modern Korean history with the number of casualties exceeding only by the Korean War (1950-1953). The Jeju 4.3 Peace Park commemorates the deaths of the victims with a large, white tombstone. The tombstone is blank and is laid flat on the ground. It is because the full truth of the historical event has not yet been accounted for. People say on Jeju Island that the entire island is a grave because there are so many spots where people were killed. However, upon visiting such spots, what one finds is the view of an ordinary landscape: the famous Jeju stones, the sea, and the wind. This is what prompted me to make the hologram of the white tomb, to summon back the forgotten past and memory. I use two screens. One is for showing the landscape; the other is for hologram, which shows the white tomb and the text description of the site background.
