Work description : The Edge of Landscape is a series of photographs of pauper’s graves found in various locations near Seoul and in farming villages in Korea. The nameless graves in the farming areas, in particular, were often found on fertile land and amidst blooming flowers and ripening fruits, creating a dramatic contrast between the notions of life and death, respectively. The original exterior of the graves were often severely altered, reminding the viewer of the seasons they have endured. While friends and family members of the dead could forget the dead, the dead actually makes new connections in death. That connection is the connection with life and reality, and it has many faces: avoidance, peace, poignancy, awe, and contradiction. |
