I have been doing survival projects for a long time. This work began when I had my own environment and got an additional job as professor. The first survival work was video works, in which a person with a timid nature practiced what she needed to do in her social life with being an artist and a professor. The exercises were dancing and singing. Dancing and singing are things that professors and artist do not need at all. However, this society in which I live is a reality that I can not be recognized for my ability because I am faithful to my area of expertise. In other words, human relationships that are intertwined with work are an important part of their ability. However, the process of forming this relationship is not acquired by own’s ability, but rather by something else. For example, it is achieved by good looks, excellent conversation, and personal ability to keep people entertained at the end of a every meeting. Dance and song are essential for this. The social and cultural background of each country is different, but in Korea, if you meet these conditions, you will get a better chance of being accepted better than the ability you have. These experiences came from living as an artist and professor. So I took a video to watch the dancer while watching the dancer for personal development, and went to the karaoke room alone and took a video to practice the songs that people would like.

There is a hire miner project as a second survival project. This project was created from the former mining towns of Sabuk and Gohan as public art projects. Sabuk and Gohan had been mining towns for over 40 years. However, due to the government's energy development policy, it was closed and now residents are working in casinos and leisure industries. These big changes affected the environment and consciousness of local residents and caused various problems in the process of adapting. I received a proposal for a public art project and I lived in Sabuk for a month. During that time, I met local residents and met people who were former miners. In common, local residents have a strong sense of pride in the hard mining profession to this day, and have been able to predict the strong community life of local residents based on this profession in the past. So I became interested in the mining business and wanted to become a miner. So I figured out what it takes to become a miner. The most important thing was that it was unacceptable when you are physically tall or big. Because the tunnel is a very narrow space. And more importantly, it required a stamina that could be sustained in this space. So those who passed the physical conditions had a fitness training course. This training course was a four-week drill that miners had to take before being put into the coal mining, and those who could not sustain it could not become miners. I myself have been trained by a former miner trainer and taken a video of the course.

The third survival project was made in Berlin. I was supposed to stay in Berlin for 6 months by applying as an artist residence. The work plan I wrote when applying for this was not a survival project. But as I lived in Berlin, my thoughts changed. I visited Berlin a few times before coming to the residence. At that time, it was a sightseeing and business trip with a short schedule. So I did not think it was a unfamiliar city when I applied to Berlin. However, there were unexpected things going on with long stay. For example, there was a problem with the language. The language I used when I visited Berlin was English. At that time, there was no problem in communicating and doing all the work in English. However, as I have been living in my daily life for a long time, I have become a big obstacle to language. And Berlin is used by many people as a means of transportation. But I have never learned bicycle because I had a bad memory when I was a young child. If you do not ride a bicycle in Berlin, you will not be able to spend expensive travel expenses and get along with other writers. I was worried about the rest of the money. It was hard to stand for six months as a writer without earning money in expensive Europe. So I took a video of how to adapt to these three (language, bicycle, money) problems.
